Thanks for raising this ...in my clinical experience this is often due to an autoimmume condition, Sjorgens syndrome...rather than structural problems.. Classic signs are chronic, unremitting dryness of the eyes and mouth. This must be considered or there will continue to be destruction not just with dental problems but whole of body. There are safe and effective ways of helping this...dentists can't help with this aspect and it needs to be on their radar for the sake of tgeir clients.
This is brilliant information. I live with someone who struggles with dry mouth at night and is constantly reaching for a tube of mouth lubricant. He takes blood pressure medication and I will suggest he chats to his GP about an alternative brand.
Thank you this is all really important. Living in Mexico I think you need that hot weather can create dehydration as much as cold weather. That can lead to heart attacks and other serious outcomes. So most of us need to drink extra water in hot weather also.
I wish I had this valuable info last year, when I lamented my poorly fitting dentures and the inhalers I use for my asthma. I developed a chronic oral fungus that spread to my throat, making it almost impossible to swallow. It was only diagnosed with the endoscopy in February. Now I have to take oral Nystatin "swish and swallow" indefinitely
